Mt. Spurr Volcano Plan
The Dome is working closely with the Alaska Volcano Observatory, HVAC experts, our facility manufacturer, general contractor, and other professionals to prepare for any potential impacts from Mt. Spurr’s eruption. The safety of our staff, users, and community is our top priority, and The Dome has a robust plan in place should volcanic ash impact Anchorage.
What to Expect
If ashfall is forecasted toward Anchorage, The Dome will close immediately.
All users are advised to have a plan in place to leave the facility immediately. Please have travel arrangements prepared.
The Dome will remain closed during ashfall and for a period afterward while cleanup is completed and facility systems are inspected and maintained.
Our mitigation measures include filters on blower units, HEPA-grade air scrubbers, and other protective steps to help reduce the impact of volcanic ash.
In the event of an eruption, we will post updates on this webpage and on our social media channels, including information on when we'll reopen.
Thank you for being part of The Dome community and for supporting our commitment to safety and preparedness.
